I recently read in a newsletter that if we are NOT DMERC providers that we must still bill Medicare regardless. Stated the only difference between par and non-par was the collection of allowable and that not submitting to Medicare could result in a $2000 fee. To do this correctly would be to submit the billing to Medicare with "no" in box 27. Was curious to see if this is indeed the case, as others understand it.

The only time you would need to fill out an ABN for post cataract specs would be for non covered items or extras such as some tintings on lenses, specialty lenses such as blended bifocas/trifocals etc... you wouldn't even be billing Medicare Part B for these, only your DMERC, if your a provider.
