I have searched both Noridian Medicare and CMS websites for "useful" information on how to use ABN's. I'm not really getting anything very clear in the instructions. Any other websites/sources available for assistance?
I am looking for clear instructions of when to use an ABN; I know it's for "medical necessity". For example: a patient has been seen multiple times, every couple days, for wound care in a physician office setting. We have been coding 99212/3 for her visits with DX of 881.00. She had a laceration on her elbow that the physician has been providing wound care. She has been signing an ABN every time she's here. Is this appropriate use?? Help!!?!!
