Question about ABN- if a patient is seen by a provider that is not covered by Medicare- example an LCPC for 908XX services. Should an ABN be issued so we can bill the patient.
We do bill for the denial if the patient has secondary Medicaid because they pay for the LCPC- so these are instances where there is no secondary Medicaid insurance.

A good rule of thumb is to have the patient sign an ABN if you have any reason to think that Medicare will not cover a service. Make sure you are specific on the ABN on why you think it won't be covered - NEVER have a patient sign a blanket ABN.
