Hi, I was wondering if anyone could tell me how what CPT code to use when a provider pares a callus, but then applied salicylic acid after the paring?

From the note:
Continue ammonium lactate, use twice daily
Debridement of hyperkeratotic tissue sub 5th metatarsal head, right foot without incident, application of salicylic acid and a Band-Aid. Patient to remove in 24 hr.

The auditing company is absolutely wrong! If it was not a verruca treatment then 17110 is not the correct code. Code 11055 with L84 as primary dx and the appropriate supporting dx as secondary. Depending on the payer, this code is sometimes not covered. The patient should be CASH. Hope that helps!

11055, nothing changes by applying the acid. Confirm that it WAS a callus and not a verruca as usually acid is not applied to a callus. If it was a verruca, the documentation would need to change and the code would be 17110.

No it is not a verruca, just a callus. For some reason, lately the providers are applying the acid to the calluses after paring. The auditing company is telling us to use 17110 for this but then it gets denied since we are using the diagnosis L84.
