The ER physicians will often circle acute asthma exacerbation and acute bronchitis on the T-sheet. Should I code 493.92 and 466.0, or would 493.92 capture all of it, since this is also the code for asthmatic bronchitis with acute exacerbation? If they don't dx "asthmatic bronchitis," is it still asthmatic bronchitis if they dx asthma and bronchitis at the same time? Thanks.

acute asthma exacerbation and acute bronchitis

Code both 493.92 and 466.0. for acute asthma exacerbation and acute bronchitis, since 493.9X series includes only allergic and asthmatic bronchitis, not Acute Bronchitis.

Asthma ATTACK vs EXCACERBATION

Good day,

I would like to know your opinion about ASTHMA ATTACK is Equivalent to EXACERBATION? as per mayo clinic asthma attack is equivalent to asthma exacerbation. However, I have received certain audit that an asthma attack is not equivalent in exacerbation and it has only something to do with status asthmaticus diagnosis.

Please advice,

Thank you,
