curious: how are we to code ACUTE asthma? Dr. does NOT state exacerbation, just 'Acute Asthma'. I've been coding as 493.90. Is this correct?

I also use that code 493.90. As long as it doesn't state exacerbation I think that code is correct. Maybe you will get a few responses for diff opinions. Hope that helps. :)

Asthma whether it is acute or chronic has the one and only code 493.90, acute exacerbation is different from acute asthma.
