Which dx code would you use? Patient had an injury over a year ago. Presents in office as a new pt. and is found to have a meniscus tear. This tear is due to a well documented injury in which he also had a microfracture on the lateral side of knee. The microfracture has healed so treatment is just for the tear. Physician gives injury code S83.242A because it was a traumatic injury. Coders think it should be M23.222 because the injury is over a year old. Patient is going to surgery. Any thoughts on this?
