I know when our doctors do caths at the hospital it is a day surgery and you do not bill an admit code but what if it is a patient that was admitted with symptoms, my doctor admits him, and consequently ends up doing the cath and stent, can I code the observation admit code? Any help would be appreciated!!!:)

If this patient was not pre scheduled and came in with new symptoms which your doc evaluated with an exam and the patient was found to require further evaluation with Left heart cath etc., yes, then you can code and E&M with mod 25. If they were set up for a procedure and developed symptoms after the fact, I'd say no, unless symptoms were completely related to something other than for the reason doing the heart cath. Hope this helps!
