We have a patient that came in on Sunday evening. The patient needed to have surgery the next day. The MD who was seeing the patient was already scheduled to have surgeries the next day at a different facility. Therefore, he asks his partner to do the surgery. The patient was initially seen by the first M.D. with H & P dictated admitting the patient. Who gets the admit charge?

Same practice, right?

So Dr A sees the patient and admits with decision for surgery. BUT Dr B (who is in the same practice as Dr A) will actually perform the surgery .. right?

I'd code the 99221-99223 to Dr A w/ a -57 modifier(assuming the surgery will be major). I'd code the surgery to Dr B.

Whoever does the post-op care gets 99024 during the post-op global period.
