I'm currently taking courses online for CPB and CPC. I'm about to take my CPB so I have started to look into an entry level position at my current job and other clinical settings. I have been in the veterinary field for over 20 years. I know the terminology and anatomy. Both fields are similar in these subjects. I have 2 Associate's Degrees, one in Science and one in Applied Science Veterinary Technology. I have applied for over 20 positions and half of them said they are pursuing other candidates. The latest one to say no to me was for a Surgery Scheduler. I'm not sure if I was too over-qualified or under-qualified. I mean come on! I'm trying here, my body can't handle working with animals anymore. Any pointers on how to go about applying to jobs to just get my foot in the door. I understand that I will have to start from the bottom and work my way up again. Thank you!

After spending two years in college getting a coding specialist diploma and CPC certificate, it's disheartening that the job market for inexperienced coders is so bad. The hospital that I work at is willing to mentor new coders but there aren't any openings. I'm going to explore other options while keeping an eye on our job postings. If I could afford it I'd do an unpaid internship.

There are a lot of answers and tips if you search the forum on this subject and other key words such as "new CPC, CPC-A, get job, and other key words like that. It's at the top right of the forum pages to "search".

How does your resume look? e.g. if you're applying as a surgery scheduler, do you have on your resume that you were responsible for scheduling appointments for x number of clinics or x number of doctors, or scheduled x number of surgeries per day? Do you have "customer service" skills listed (since most of veterinary work is working with the owners)?

I made the move from vet medicine to health care/insurance almost 10 years ago. You really just have to keep referring back to those transferrable soft skills, to the point where it may feel like you're lying.
