When a patient who was being treated for secondary malignancy of the brain becomes inpatient and is asked to be consulted by a physician for a secondary lung mass you would code the lung mass primary correct?

I have always thought you code the primary for the reason of the enounter. In this cases it would be for the lung mass.

Advice and any proof would be great.
Thanks

Proof is in your book

The answer to your question, and therefor the proof, is in the front of your ICD-9. These guidelines answer many questions that are asked in the forums.

I highlight the guides that I am checking often or tend to use as explanantion for audits of doctors or coders.
