NSTs--are there any guidelines on when/how the strip is to be read. Must the provider be in the office to bill for the reading such as a "Nurse visit, or injection"?

The person reading the NST is the one who should be billing for it. When that happens it is documented on the date the NST is read by the provider, not necessarily the date the NST was performed elsewhere. You cannot bill for the both the technical and professional components unless you own the NST equipment so the if done at the hospital by their staff, they would bill the TC part and your provider who then was given the strip to interpret would bill the a 26 modifier.
