Hi,
If we are seeing a patient back from being hospitalized for diverticulitis. She has completed her antibiotics and still not feeling that good. A CT scan is being ordered.

Do I code a aftercare code first, followed by 562.11 or what.

Would this differ from if a patient is seen for follow up hemothorax and is doing well.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I would agree, always code for the reason for the visit. Only go to aftercare if the patient is not complaining of anything that could be considered a complication of the procedure. Code the pain or the condition as appropriate.
