Patient Diagnosed with Alcohol Abuse. Coded F10.10 Alcohol abuse, uncomplicated. How do you know if it's uncomplicated or not because there is no supporting documentation that states otherwise.

Did you check the excludes1 note on F10.1- probably should have queried the physician though since you cant just assume its uncomplicated

actually I came up with F10.19 Alcohol abuse with unspecified alcohol-induced disorder

I am curious as to whether you are coding for actual patient charts or for a class. is the "auditor" you refer to the instructor? I am not sure how you looked it up and came up with alcohol induced disorder but without the chart note I cannot tell you if that is right or wrong.
