Wiki Allergy coding

If a patient comes into the ER with a laceration and has an allergy to PCN, do you code for that allergy? She received an antibiotic as treatment obviously. My workbook does not give allergy code as a correct answer, but I would think it would be coded as a pre-existing condition that would affect treatment management.

Yes you code the PCN allergy since it was treated during that encounter.

I concur. The PCN allergy impacts treatment of the laceration so it should be included.
