hello! I'm looking to see if there are any coders who've dealt (past or current) w/ extremity amputations, specific to the osseointegration procedures. Some call it OPL or OSI (the implantation into bone with external prosthesis).
If you have experience, I have an unusual coding question & would like to run it past another coder with experience. Please contact me at christinnagle1@gmail.com. I've been coding for a long time & am at a loss on this one!
After we chat, I'll post the question here for all for future reference(s). TIA!!!

I have an unusual coding question & would like to run it past another coder with experience. Please contact me at christinnagle1@gmail.com. It's too complicated to list here that's why I want to chat first. Again, I will post the scenario & recommendation here afterwards.

Thank you, Dr Raizman, for your assistance on this issue & your recommendation to add this query to the Orthopedic section for future reference. Your email was a welcome refresh since sometimes overthinking a problem gets in the way of the solution. My scenario was a patient w/ an OPL implant requires an exchange of the outer prosthetic that connects to the internal bone implant. This outer prosthetic requires exchange every few years due to wear, etc. The external prosthesis exchange does not require an incision or closure & typically pt is under anesthesia in a facility setting for various reasons. My brain was fighting a surgical code (ie: 27499, 27899) and also struggling to locate a compare code for this non-surgical portion. It was suggested to look at this exchange as more of an exfix procedure & final code determination will be up to the coder/physician interpretation of procedure performed. And given this suggestion, I do believe using an unlisted w/ the compare code 20693 is the right path to be on! more research is needed since each case is unique.
Again, thank you again!!!
