Exploring billing for anesthesia....

Though very payer specific, do you obtain a separate auth for anesthesia? Or, do you bill with the auth obtained for the provider and/or facility? Thanks in advance.

Generally, anesthesia providers don't receive all billing information for patients until the day of the procedure making authorizations impossible to obtain prior to the date of service. When surgeons' offices obtain auths, it is understood that certain procedures require anesthesia.
