I am new to billing anesthesia and need a few answers. I cannot find a very good reference for billing/coding for anesthesia so any input or reference would be helpful.

For coding/billing anesthesia charges, I have providers who want to use field avoidance, prone, and position change on the face sheet, I am not sure about the use of the above listed.

From what I can find Field avoidance needs to be documented how and why? prone - would be documented IF in the prone position unusually, but not for a typical procedure in the prone position ex: Achilles repair. and major position change - again if the patient has been changed from a position to a position this would be listed how and why.

Can anyone lend any ideas or clear up my thoughts with these. I would also believe the modifier 22/23 would be used. I need clarification on which one specifically. I think 22, and I know payers do not all pay but some will. Any printed documentation would greatly be appreciated.
