Hey All -

I see that CMS has posted guidance stating that a KX modifier should be appended to the screening colonoscopy code to indicate such service was performed as a followup to a positive stool based test.

It doesn't specifically state it should be applied to the anesthesia code as well, but are others applying the KX to the anesthesia claim?

I don't see any guidance for diagnosis coding here either - Are you billing a Z12.11, Z86.010, etc before the R19.5 or just the R19.5 in this scenario?

Thanks!

We use the R19.5 and the Z86.010, if appropriate. And we don't append the KX modifier for our anesthesia claim. Interested to hear what others do!
I did submit a question to one of the CMS local contractors and received a call back. She stated the KX modifier is not needed on anesthesia claims.
