Being prepared is your best course at this point, since not giving notice is, as you know, a very big deal.

Do you know anyone who is professional enough to call on your behalf and ask for a reference so you will know what your past boss will say about you? Anyone that has been in hiring in the past that would call and ask all the right questions so you will know what to expect and you can make a game plan from there?
