It is my impression that part of the documentation requirements to therapy codes is to establish and follow a treatment plan.
If a psych dr sees a patient in the hospital one time and the patient doesn't follow this dr out of this hospital visit, is it really appropriate to use these codes ? IE 90816? Advise please.

The Psych Doc provided the therapy service while pt was in the hospital. He should have documented his eval, assessment and plan.

But after the patient is discharged, they are free to see whatever provider they want...or see no one at all. Whatever the patient decides to do does not negate that your Psych Doc performed (and documented) an Inpatient service

I would agree that the 908XX are appropriate.

Some providers establish a plan of care that involves the patient transitioning to other providers. The patient also may not be compliant with that POC, so that does not negate the use of these codes.
