My EHR takes their list of available ICD10 codes from !CD10Data. Under M79.604 which refers to the right leg only in the AAPC coding book, they list bilateral let only under a term "approximate synonym". My providers are suing it to indicate bilateral legs and we are being denied for anything being done to the left leg which makes sense to me. I just don't understand the term "approximate synonym" and I believe it is deceiving the provider who has a difficult enough time with ICD10. Can anyone shed some light on the for me?

More than likely this is an entry error with ICD-10 Data. I found numerous such errors with this website and while it is free and easy to use it is no substitute for a good old fashion code book. When the provider selects the incorrect code the coder should change it so that you do not get denials such as you have indicated.
