Codes in question: 29823 +29826 and 23412 (arthroscopic debridement +decompression and OPEN Cuff repair)
23412 and +29826 are producing a CCI edit
The arthroscopic PARENT procedure code (29823) does NOT have a CCI edit with add-on code +29826 (decompression of subacromial space), and the +29826 is documented as being related to the arthroscopic parent procedure 29823 (therefore; not directly related to the OPEN Rotator Cuff Repair, 23412). No evidence to suggest this was an athroscopic procedure that was converted to an open cuff repair.
Do you agree that the CCI edit for +29826/23412 would not apply to the 29826 because it is an add-on to the parent 29823 and is not part of the 23412?
(Note: Per information on the AAOS and Supercoder site, prior to 2012, CPT code 29826 (Arthroscopy, shoulder, surgical; decompression of subacromial space with partial acromioplasty, with coracoacromial ligament) was a standalone code and according to NCCI, was clearly bundled w/23412 (Repair of ruptured musculotendinous cuff (eg, rotator cuff) open; chronic) unless it was a SEPARATE encounter or CONTRALATERAL shoulder.
