My provider performed an arthroscopic patellectomy but argued that CPT 27350 still can be used since it doesn't specifically state that it's an open procedure. I checked and the CPT book doesn't state, "for an arthroscopic procedure see..." I suggested using 29999 and compare it to 27350. Has anyone else had this issue?

Surgical procedures are performed either open, percutaneous or arthroscopically. The arthroscopic codes start with 29 as you know. If the procedure is percutaneous this will be in the description of the code. There is no question that 27350 is an open procedure. This would be 29999/27350.
