Can anyone tell me if there is a Payer Grid that specifies which Modifier to use when a physician ass't helps the surgeon. I know Medicare requires the AS mod on their claims and the primary surgeon must document exactly what the PA did during the procedure. Other payers will deny the AS mod and like the 80. I'm trying to determine which payers like which, and if I'm being compliant using the 80 mod on a non MD??? HELP!!
 
I don't recall having any payor deny -AS for the PA assist, and require -80 for a PA.
I have had carriers want the physician claim with PA assist billed as
##### with MD name for primary
#####-AS WITH MD NAME for assist, even though the PA rendered the service
