Is SG modifier required for commercial payors for amubulatory surgical center billing. Also, can 51 modifier be used for multipe procedures or is it not necessary?

Yes, -SG is needed after each CPT on ASC claim. I use -59-SG on the CPT's that I want to keep from bundling, but the only claims I need to use -51 on are our spine surgeries. All of our other ortho surgeries don't require the use of -51.

If the procedure is performed on the left only or the right side only of a defined bilateral body part or organ. Remember skin is a continuous organ which has no laterality and you do not use LT, RT, or 50 for skin procedures.
