I need to clear up some confusion. For ambulatory surgery coding do you code only the primary diagnosis for having the surgery or code the primary diagnosis and other related diagnosis?

Thanks,

Ebony Ratcliffe, CPC

The primary and what ever diagnosis is related to the surgery. History of or status dx's also. But only ones that relate to the reason they are having the surgery.:)

Thanks I have been in a debate for awhile now at my facility. I found the guidelines in the
AHA Coding Clinic 4Q 1995, Volume 12, Number 4 pages 43-49. Thanks for you reply.

Ebony:)
