I am trying to figure out if Aseptic Necrosis (of head and neck of femur) is systemic? I have read that some the necrotic tissue stays, and can cause other diseases, then I have read that it isn't systemic. Any help out there?

Its my understanding that Aseptic Necrosis is the localized death of bone tissue, caused by inadequate blood supply to the bone that will lead to collapse of the bone itself. It is usually caused by other diseases, injuries or chronic steriod use, etc and does not spread. However a patient that has developed it in one area is more than likely to develop it in another. With that being said - there are some that will say that it does spread - most scientist however do disagree. If I can find the link to the paper that I read on this I will post it here. A few radiology residents that I work with had the same conversation and came to the same conclusion.
