Hello

I am a CPC-A and recently applied for a position at a local clinic. They had filled the position but were interested in screening me for something in their Compliance department. I'm not sure whether it's auditing related or compliance related, but I do know I have to take an assessment where I look over case studies. I'm not really sure what I should be brushing up on for this, whether it is guidelines or codes. If you guys have any suggestions I'd definitely be open to hearing about them. This is such a huge opportunity and I really want to do well.

As a certified coder, I worked in a Payer's compliance department - Special Investigation Unit. Interesting job, reviewing chart notes for potential Fraud, Waste, and Abuse. Upcoding, (even down coding could be a sign of waste) or other billing issues. Know your guidelines and maybe review the OIG website?

Do you have any experience in coding or billing? Compliance department will definitely give you insight but as Bill has stated, know your guidelines from OIG and familiarize yourself with the Fed Register as well. Compliance can either make you or break you....just my opinion. The assessment test you'll be facing should consist of leveling E/M, knowing the difference between FW&A, compliance plans, etc. You may also want to look at FCSO University for additional info as this clinic may have the test gear directly at Florida statutes.

Best of luck!
Deanna
