Bariatric surgery question

If patient was scheduled for a laparoscopy gastric band placement (43770) and the surgery had to be postponed due to finding a liver mass can the doctor bill the 43770-52 or would he just bill for a laparscopy with pictures
(47560?)

Lynda, Hi! I am a Newbie, as well..still studying, so just giving you a point of reference until you hear back from someone who can give you an absolute answer. I believe you will find the answer in the V-codes. Try x V64.3 and see if that works for you.

Modifier 52

Hello,
If the Physician did not start the lap band but instead did the other surgical procedure then you would not bill the lap band at all. But if he did start it and could not finish due to the other then yes use modifier 52.

You should expect to have your Op notes requested for review and payment for the procedure with the mod 52 will most likely be reduced.
