Have a 15yo with a BBFF unstable - took to OR - Doctor is calling this a "closed reduction, internal fixation with IM rods" -
a small incision is made at the proximal ulna (after visualizing under fluro). Incision taken down through skin and subcut. tissue on the bone. Small drill bit placed down inside the bone and intramedullary canal. We slightly bent the Synthes titanium, elastic nail, went down inside the ulnar shaft proximally, down the ulnar shaft mid and distally to the fracture site. I was unable to manipulate the ulna fracture in a good position and gently progressed the nail across it almost to the growth plate. We were then happy with the reduction, we then brought it back a small amount.
He goes on to describe basically the same process for the radius.
I'm thinking this is unlisted as 25575 refers to plates and screws - not placing rods - therefore, what code would I use to compare this to for the use of an unlisted code?
Compare it to 24516 IM rodding of the humeral shaft and double it since this case involves 2 bones that had IMs?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
