Is there a lesion removal code that is neither benign or malignant that can be used without waiting for the path report result? In my primary care practice (Ohio), skin lesion removal codes 11400-11446 (benign) and 11600-11646 (malignant) are reimbursed with a sizable difference in allowables. Also, our new EMR program requires completion of the CPT code assignment at the time of the service- not allowing time to wait on the path results. Any ideas?

If it is an excision then you have no choice but to wait for the path report. I suggest you get with your software vendor and have your EMR adjusted for this.
