I am needing some help with using the correct CPT for a laparoscopic bilateral separation component procedure. My understanding is that 15734 is the open code. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm also needing some assistance with the correct coding for laparoscopic incisional herniorrhaphy with bilateral transverse abdominis release. I have been told by UHC 15734 is an open code only. I did find an article published by the American College of Surgeons and it states this:

"Coding tip: Hybrid laparoscopic and open hernia repair
Code 15734 is an open procedure. For more complicated laparoscopic hernia repair procedures that may include separation of components, report code 49659, Unlisted laparoscopy procedure, hernioplasty, herniorrhaphy, herniotomy. For hernia repair procedures that are hybrid laparoscopic and open repairs, report the appropriate code for open hernia repair."

If I'm understanding correctly, we should be billing 49659 for the unlisted procedure. I would appreciate any feedback.
