Hello I have a question. I just started working for a small practice with 3 or 4 coders at a given time. I remember in class where the instructors informed us that we should not code our own claims (if you see the doctor that you are coding for), does anyone know where this is written at?

I'm not sure of any law, but it seems like it would be a conflict of interest to code one's own claim for the purposes of billing a payer from a provider. A payer may see this as an attempt to lower medical costs. I would just have a trusted colleague code your visit to avoid any questions.
