An E/M for a screening colonoscopy is included in the allowance for the colonoscopy and not billable unless we are having to manage something such as an anticoagulant, etc.

If a patient comes in with history of colon polyps and need for polyp surveillance is that E/M billable or will it fall under the same category as the screening office visit. I was told to bill these visits using dx code Z86.010 but I want to make sure it's appropriate.

Thanks!

I don't believe E/M for screenings are billable, even if it falls in the high risk category, which is sound like you are referring to. E/M should only be billed for diagnostic colonoscopies.
