Can a RN bill for all ABi testing and Doppler scans for Dm foot care using this code 93922?

Per AMA/CMS Guidelines, in order to bill for 93922 in the office setting, having performed and interpreted the study, the provider must be a physician that is: "capable of demonstrating documented training through recent residency training or postgraduate Continuing Medical Education (CME) and experience and maintain that documentation for post payment review."

In addition, "all non-invasive peripheral arterial diagnostic studies, when performed by a technologist, must be performed by a technologist who has demonstrated competency in ultrasound by receiving one of the following credentials in vascular ultrasound technology:
Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) provided by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) provided by The American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
Vascular Sonographer (VS) provided by The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, Sonography (ARRT) (S)."

Therefore, I would check with the supervising physician's credentials to see if they have obtained the required certification to bill for the interpretation of these studies, and I would not bill for the nurse.

Hope this helps,

Ardith, GSCG
