Hello,

Is there a CPT code for marital counseling 90 minutes, and can we bill for it?

I am reading that marital counseling is not covered by insurances as it's not medically necessary. If so, can we bill the couple and do we have to have them sign something?

Thanks.

I don't think there is a CPT code for marriage/couples counseling.

Here is a good article. Any chance it could meet the conditions of Family counseling? Although one person in the relationship (patient) must have a mental health or substance abuse diagnosis and the focus of the treatment must on the patients diagnosed condition

If its true marriage counseling, yes you will need to get the patient to sign a waiver and advise them its not covered. The insurance company i work for requires you to specifically state in writing that its not a covered benefit on their insurance and what the estimated costs are and must be signed by the patient
