Does anybody out there have any information regarding billing for topical ointments such as bactroban or mupirocin or other miscellaneous things such as Ibprofin?

The doc wants to bill for them but I keep telling them things like this shouldn't be billed separately (because they are included in the E&M) but no one is listening. I am looking for documentation.

Thanks!
Christina

I am wondering why the physician isn't just giving a script to the patient to purchase from the pharmacy and is the provider licensed to dispense drugs?

This article might be of help to start with, it has to do with self-administered drugs and Part D Medicare participants (Provider). The HCPCS codes probably would fall under the J3490 as that is where most of the self-administered drugs fall.
