Wiki Billing Medicare as a SecondaryInsurance

The steps are the same as billing any other insurance secondary. The CMS web site can give you information on Medicare as a secondary payer. They have a fact sheet and other information available. Just make sure that you submit the claim whether you expect payment or not, if you fail to submit a claim and the primary determines they were not supposed to be you may miss timely filing for Medicare if no secondary claim has been sent. http://www.cms.gov/Medicare/Coordin...are-Secondary-Payer-MSP-Fact-Sheet-CMS102.pdf

Just make sure you submit on a new red and white form they do not accept any other. And make sure the EOB from the primary is enclosed.

Medicare does not accept paper claims acutally only in the specific circumstance for providers that have a very small volume of MCR claims and even in that instance the provider has to get specific permission from MCR to bill hardcopy. You would bill the claim EDI 2ndry to MCR with the MSP box marked in whatever practice management software you are using.
