It has been a while since I have needed to bill injections. However we have a new provider coming on board that will be doing these injections. I need clarification on the appropriate way to bill these. May we bill the injection and the steroid?

Is it being done in the office setting? It depends on the medication. You would bill the J code if the office provided (bought) it and the procedure (20600, 20610, etc.). Some meds may be buy and bill or some like the Viscos could be supplied by the specialty pharmacy and delivered to the practice so you can't bill those (I know those are not steroids, just an example). It depends. You can't bill for the lidocaine added at the same time as Depo-Medrol, etc.
