We are not contracted with any private insurance company, only Medicare and Medicaid.
It is my understanding that we are allowed to balance bill the patient for any balance not covered by an insurance company. Our office visit fees are not too far over the UCR, sometimes by as little as $9 (or even $2 with Aetna) and as much as $40.
How do other billers handle these balances? I'm really just looking for opinions and trends in the business.
We are a neurosurgery office.

Thanks in advance.

If you are talking about billing patients that are not Medicare/Medicaid, you can bill the charge that you have set for the entire practice.
For example, if you charge $150 for a 99213 across the board, then you can bill the patient that charge for a self pay patient.
