Are telephone calls still billable as of 2024? What is the proper way to bill this in an office setting? I have an APRN that spoke to a patient about their symptoms per the doctor's request, but the patient will be seen in office the next day with a different APRN. Not sure if this is billable or not. In general whether the phone calls are billable will vary from payer to payer.

Specifically in this case, the phone call wouldn't be billable, because there will be an office visit the next day. See the CPT description for the telephone call codes:

Telephone evaluation and management service by a physician or other qualified health care professional who may report evaluation and management services provided to an established patient, parent, or guardian not originating from a related E/M service provided within the previous 7 days nor leading to an E/M service or procedure within the next 24 hours or soonest available appointment
