I work in a plastic surgeon office doing the billing and have a question that needs clarification please:
When a current patient comes in to see the physician and they discuss some skin issues and then the doctor does a shave biopsy on something else can you bill out an E&M visit (99213-25 MOD) with the shave biopsy?
But to add to this if they did not really talk about anything else and only did a shave biopsy but is not related to any problems patient has ever had can you still bill out for a 99213 with the shave biopsy or will the 99213 get denied? Because I was told that the Shave biopsy hold a small E&M to it?
