I'm new to optometry billing and my physician is asking if we can set up a "dummy" code for our self pay patients. There would be no insurance involved. This would allow us to offer a lower rate for routine eye exams when the patient has no coverage for this service. I'm concerned about the legality of this since I know there is only supposed to be one fee schedule. Any thoughts are welcome! Thank yo

I agree there should only be one fee schedule. I'd advise against creating alternate pricing. However I believe most systems allow for a discount function to be applied, so perhaps you can set this up?
