I am struggling with trying to find current information if it is possible to bill when a provider see's a parent without the patient being in the room. One of my providers says it can be done but looking at the E/M rules, it states face to face which to means the patient must be in the room. This provider has also stated that they can bill an elderly/dementia family/legal representative without them being in the room. I am at a loss how to move forward and would appreciate any help that you are able to offer. E/M codes, counseling codes, modifiers??
