We have some providers now utilizing bioinductive implants (Smith & Nephew Regeneten Bioinductive Implant) to reinforce rotator cuff repairs. I am wondering what the best way would be to report these. I have seen some information stating to use 29999 (Unlisted procedure, arthroscopy). KZA has information stating that that since this is not a normal part of a standard rotator cuff repair, they recommend 29827 with modifier 22 as long as you have the supporting documentation. I am curious how others have been coding this procedure. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
 
The issue is that Regeneten is an implant, not a procedure. There are hundreds of anchor options and techniques for cuff repair and recon, and a massive cuff tear pays the same as a 1cm tear with a single anchor. You lose on the curves and you win on the straightaways.

You can argue that the work of putting a Regeneten on top of a cuff repair is not captured by 29827, so can add a -22 modifier, but no guarantee it will be reimbursed. That is the current KZA/AAOS thinking.
