I talked with the Dr. that did the biopsy and how the sample was removed to send to pathology and he stated that the patient had a lesion that was raised and he just "snipped" off a piece of the lesion. The whole lesion was not removed. So I am wondering how to bill this? I did receive the path report and it is labeled LEFT EAR CANAL, BIOPSY, Superficial fragments of atypical squamous cells. Any help is appreciated! Thank You!

Hello,
I would use 69100. Some of the lay terms for this code are:

Depending on the depth of the lesion, he may use a special type of needle to extract a portion of the lesion, a biopsy punch and scissors to extract the center of the lesion, or a blade to shave off a portion of the lesion.

To add to my question, the lesion was removed in the concha part of the ear. I apologize for not stating that initially!
