One of my providers performed an incisional biopsy of what he believed was a right temporal mass. Once he made the incision and dissected down to the temporalis fascia, he was unable to locate a distinctive mass so he took three tissue samples for pathology and closed the incision. We have been unable to determine a proper code to use in this situation as he did not excise anything. Does anyone have any suggestions we can look at for coding this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
