Hello,
Not sure about coding this one.
This patient has a high risk stage 1 for urothelial cell carcinoma. and is here for restaging TURBT based on the AUA guidelines.

The findings included a medium-sized SCAR present at the left lateral bladder wall.
The SCAR was abutting the left ureteral orifice but not involving it.
NO OBVIOUS TUMOR WAS SEEN,...however the previous resection could be distorting it.

Resection of the BLADDER TUMOR SCAR WAS PERFORMED.AND THE BLADDER TUMOR CHIPS WERE SENT TO LAB.
Pathology came back as Granulation tissue , benign bladder wall with acute and chronic inflammation ie no evidence of malignancy.

I'm a hospital coder and the clinical team billed out a 52235 - resection of a med bladder tumor.
I just am not comfortable with this CPT code.
Since no actual tumor was found as had previously been removed.
Does anyone have any suggestions... for the CPT ??
Thanks,
Carol

The resection was performed because more tumor was suspected. So I would go with the TURB code. The diagnosis could be N49.4...path pending. Now the follow up visit could be Z71.1 no evidence of tumor found.
