Can the Dx code 374.30 be used as a primary dx with the CPT 15823? I was told a 374.87 or a 374.34 should be primary, then the 374.30 should always be secondary. I have never had any denials before, and according to the Ophthalmology Coding Alert it depends on the patient's main complaint and the documentation. Can someone clarify this for me? Thank you!

374.30 can be used as primary. The dx should be what is documented, and if the documentation just states "ptosis", then dx 374.30 is appropriate. Hope this helps :)
